Timing eggs

admin on: Class 1 Blog

This morning we have been using a timer to cook some eggs. The children have watched the steam rising and the water bubbling. They have talked about what they could see happening and discussed why. They boiled the eggs for different times and then had the chance to eat them with some toast. Most of them tried the soft boiled egg and all of them enjoyed the toast.

Young scientists

Today the children were helped by Mrs Ballantyne to make floam. Add the different ingredients made them think of George and his marvellous medicine. Watching and listening to the children playing with the floam this afternoon was really interesting. They talked a lot about what it felt like and compared it to different things. They moulded and shaped it and were amazed by what they could do with it. Some of them realised they could roll it into a ball and bounce it. I am sure there will be lots of fun learning to be had with the floam next week.

Bikes to school

admin on: Class 1 Blog

The children have had lots of fun having cycling sessions each day in school this week. I have watched their confidence, strength and ability grow each day. Thank you to Mr Armiger from the tri club for coaching the children and we hope that you come back and help us in the spring.

We have also celebrated Thanksgiving by learning a poem, playing American football and making and eating pumpkin pie.

Busy, busy, busy

admin on: Class 1 Blog

The classroom was filled with the smell of spices as the children made pumpkin smoothies on Friday. They took turns to prepare and add ingredients, measuring and tasting as they went along. Nearly all the children tasted it and most of them finished a cupful!

The children also did some observational drawing of a pumpkin using oil pastels. They were taught how to blend and smudge by Mrs Langton and the results are brilliant.

Entrepreneurs in the making

admin on: Class 1 Blog

The children have been preparing their goods to sell to you all this afternoon. They are excited by the fact that they can make some money and buy a treat! I think that we may have to have some long discussions about what that treat might be.
